Did you know about the Stoke Gifford By-election 12th Feb 2009 ?

7.06.00pm GMT Thu 5th Feb 2009

The election is on 12th February and the polling station is at Little Stoke Community Hall on Little Stoke Lane.

The Liberal Democrats candidate is Gary Prosser who lives and works in the Parish. Gary believes that the Tories have become complacent, and failed to defend Parish interests. They have broken election promises made to Stoke Gifford at the unitary elections and are very secretive. We therefore hope you will vote for him, not only because he will be an effective voice for our community, but he wants the Parish to start addressing the local issues that really matter around here.

For example, the Tory run Parish Council are not doing enough to address traffic congestion in Stoke Gifford which will increase further with the 1200 home development at Harry Stoke. More must be done to increase not cut support for public transport. Gary will press South Glos Council for a dedicated bus route in place of the Stoke Gifford by-pass and to get a proper and safe pedestrian access under the Gypsy Patch bridge. But to do all this he needs your vote this Thursday 12th February !

The Lib Dems have some radical, exciting policies for us all. Like our promise to enable schools to reduce class sizes (to 15) in early years education by recruiting more teachers. Nick Clegg said of this policy "At a time when we are pouring hundreds of billions of pounds into the pockets of bankers, to find half a billion pounds to give all our children the start they need in life seems to me to be a sensible call."
