Following the announcement that Sir Ming Campbell has resigned as leader of the Liberal Democrats, Emma Bone prospective Lib Dem MP for Filton and Bradley Stoke said:

"Ming Campbell is an honourable man and has acted in what he believes to be the best interests of the Party. The Liberal Democrats owe Sir Ming a huge debt of gratitude.

"I was on stage with Ming when he made his keynote speech to Lib Dem Party Conference and was inspired by his conviction and determination.

"Ming stands down as leader with the respect and affection of the party but the time has come for a new leader - Ming clearly recognised this.

"I will continue to campaign for the people of South Gloucestershire regardless of who is leading the party."
