Environmental campaigner chosen for F&BS (Filton and Bradley Stoke) PPC (prospective parliamentary candidate) .

The people of Filton and Bradley Stoke constituency have got a fresh contender entering the race to become the new constituency's first MP. Environmental campaigner and local councillor for Pilning and Severn Beach Peter Tyzack was selected with over 50% of the vote to be the Liberal Democrat candidate.

Peter Tyzack said, "I am honoured to have been chosen by the Party to represent the people in this new constituency for the next General Election. I would like to say thank you for the support that I have already received and the further encouragement since my selection especially from Steve Webb MP."

He continued, "What I would like to do is to offer a real alternative for the people of this new constituency. With just over five months left to run to the General Election, F&BS is a rare opportunity for us. Local by-election results across the country show a significant move towards the Liberal Democrats, so we should be optimistic."

"The Liberal Democrats offer a real alternative with policies that are relevant to everyday lives such as raising the income tax threshold to £10,000 which would make millions of people better off. We would also encourage a more sustainable economy and this is so pertinent to the South West with it being the Country's first designated low carbon region. In this tough economic time we are fortunate that there are a number of major companies, such as Airbus, GKN and Rolls Royce, who are at the cutting-edge of technology will benefit from the new National Composites centre to be located near here. I hope that this will help to secure the high-quality jobs and prosperity that is very important for the area. I have personally advocated further support for other business investments and opportunities in the F&BS area particularly business start up units and work life unit opportunities. The Lib Dems are also about fairness and I want to make every vote count by introducing a fair voting system so that the public can take back control of politics and hold politicians to account."

"Add to this the fact the Labour Government is bankrupt of ideas and have not kept their promises or done the things they should have. 'Things could only get better' they said but for many people they haven't. Sadly it is the people in communities such as Stoke Gifford, Filton and Staple Hill who are paying the price of those broken promises. Against them the Conservative alternative is weak, fake and ineffectual with few ideas and even fewer policies yet made public. Some political analysts assume it is simply time to 'change ends' at Westminster but voters are still far from convinced. The Liberal Democrats offer a real alternative and to the people who say 'can we do it?' I say yes we can."

Steve Webb MP said, "Knowing the hard work and dedication that Peter has put in during his many years of public service for the Council I am convinced that he has what it takes to make a an excellent local MP. He has the determination to continue fighting for the things that local people need. Peter and I have worked closely on a number of issues already including in particular environmental issues such as harnessing Severn Tidal energy and improving recycling."
