At last a heart for Bradley Stoke

November 16, 2006 8:49 PM

Councillors today approved plans to bring life to the centre of Bradley Stoke. Following a four-year campaign by local Liberal Democrats, residents will soon see a town centre in the heart of their community. South Gloucestershire Council members of the DC West committee approved proposals for retail, leisure and community facilities in the centre of Bradley Stoke.

After the meeting, Bradley Stoke Councillor Jon Williams said, "The decision taken today was the result of tremendous hard work, and I'm pleased to see that the proposals were well supported. I am optimistic that the new town centre will breathe new life into the community. I am particularly keen to see a Post Office included within the development. It would be such an important asset. For example, enabling local residents to tax their cars without having to get into their cars which is increasingly important in the light of climate change. "

Local residents concerns are being addressed in a series of conditions which have been imposed on the application plans. These will include limiting hours of deliveries and making the open spaces accessible to the public at all times.

Sandra Hobson, Councillor for Bradley Stoke, Baileys Court, also attended the meeting and was enthusiastic about the potential of community engagement. "It's fantastic that after 20 year's Bradley Stoke will be given the vibrancy and opportunities for community it deserves."

Emma Bone Liberal Democrat PPC for Filton and Bradley Stoke said, "I am really pleased at the mix of facilities that will be available for residents. It is tremendously important that there is a balance of commercial and community interests. As a resident of Bradley Stoke I am passionate about improving our choice of amenities. I am keen to see that the development will go ahead with the minimum environmental impact and look to incorporate the best in modern designs and technology."
